Umrah planned around your family
An Umrah with your family is not the same as an Umrah on your own. Your mother may not walk far, your children need rest, and your brother's family may want a different room. At Expert Aviation we build the package after we understand all of this — hotel distance from Haram, group size, elderly parents and your travel dates — so the journey supports your worship instead of tiring everyone out.
This guide explains how we plan a family Umrah from Pakistan, step by step. It covers hotels in Makkah and Madinah, the best time to travel, caring for elders and children, flights from Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi and other cities, visas, transport, Ziyarat and what to pack. Use it to plan your own trip, or share it with the family member who is organising everyone.
Start with the people, not the package
Many agents start with a ready-made package and try to fit your family into it. We do the opposite. Before we suggest any hotel or flight, we ask a few simple questions:
- Who is travelling? The number of adults, children and infants, and anyone over 60.
- Can everyone walk comfortably? If someone uses a wheelchair or tires easily, hotel distance becomes the most important choice.
- Which city will you fly from? Sahiwal families often fly from Lahore or Multan, but relatives may join from Islamabad or Karachi.
- When can you travel? School holidays, office leave and Ramadan all change the price and the crowd.
- What is your budget per person? An honest budget helps us put the money where it matters most for your family.
Once we have these answers, the right package usually becomes clear. Send them to us on WhatsApp at 0300 9693936 and we will start from there.
Hotel distance from Haram: the most important choice
For most families, hotel distance matters more than the star rating. A simple hotel close to the Haram often gives a better Umrah than a luxury hotel far away, because you can walk to every prayer, return to rest between them and avoid waiting for shuttles in the heat.
| Distance from Haram | Walking time | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Front row / facing the Haram | 0–5 min | Elderly parents, wheelchair users, Ramadan |
| Up to 500 m | 5–10 min | Most families with children |
| 500 m – 1 km | 10–20 min | Healthy adults on a moderate budget |
| Over 1 km (with shuttle) | Shuttle or taxi | Budget groups and longer stays |
Walking times are approximate and grow in peak season, when crowds around the Haram are heavy. We always tell you the real walking route, not just the straight-line distance on a map.
Hotels in Makkah
In Makkah, the hotels around the clock tower and the Jabal Omar area are the closest to Masjid al-Haram. They cost more, but they are the easiest choice for elders and for Ramadan. A little further out, hotels in areas such as Ajyad and Misfalah offer good value within walking distance. Budget groups often stay in Aziziyah or similar areas with a shuttle to the Haram.
For families, we also look at details that a map does not show: whether the hotel has enough lifts for busy prayer times, whether rooms can take an extra bed for a child, and whether the route to the Haram has slopes or stairs that are hard for elders.
Hotels in Madinah
In Madinah, the central area around Masjid an-Nabawi, often called the Markazia, has hotels a few minutes' walk from the mosque gates. Because the mosque is large, we check which gate your hotel is closest to, especially for women's prayer areas and wheelchair access. Madinah is usually calmer than Makkah, so many families like to rest here before or after the Umrah itself.
Choosing your travel dates
Your dates affect prices, crowds, weather and how comfortable the trip is for your family.
- Ramadan: the most rewarding time for many, and the busiest. Hotels near the Haram and flights sell out early, especially for the last ten days. Book three to four months ahead.
- Winter (December and January): pleasant weather and Pakistani school holidays make this a popular family season. Prices rise, so early booking helps.
- Summer (June to August): very hot in Makkah and Madinah. Families with elders should choose hotels very close to the Haram and plan worship around cooler hours.
- Quieter months: the weeks after the peak seasons often have better hotel availability and lower fares.
Most families choose 14 to 21 days, split between Makkah and Madinah. With elderly parents or young children, a longer trip with rest days is usually better than a rushed seven-day plan.
Umrah with elderly parents
Taking your parents for Umrah is one of the most meaningful journeys a family can make. With the right planning, it can also be comfortable for them.
- Choose the closest hotel you can afford. Saving walking energy is the biggest comfort you can give an elder.
- Plan for wheelchairs. Wheelchairs and electric carts are available at Masjid al-Haram for Tawaf and Sa'i, and we can also arrange a wheelchair at the airport through the airline.
- Book direct flights where possible. A nonstop flight from Lahore, Islamabad or Karachi avoids long transit waits.
- Carry medicines and prescriptions. Keep enough for the whole trip in hand baggage, with a copy of the doctor's prescription.
- Leave rest days. Plan the Umrah itself after a night's sleep, and keep Ziyarat days light.
- Ask for lower-floor or near-lift rooms to avoid waiting at busy times.
If a parent has a medical condition, speak to their doctor before booking. Tell us about any needs, and we will build the hotel, flights and transport around them.
Umrah with children
Children of any age can travel for Umrah with their parents, and many families remember their children's first sight of the Kaaba for the rest of their lives. A few small steps make the trip easier:
- Choose a hotel within walking distance so you can return for naps and meals.
- Perform Tawaf at quieter times, such as late morning, instead of just after a main prayer.
- Write your phone number and hotel name on a card or wristband for each child.
- Agree on a fixed meeting point inside the Haram in case anyone gets separated.
- Carry water, light snacks and a small first-aid kit.
Infants and children need their own passports and visas. We confirm child fares, baby bassinets on the flight and extra beds in the room when we make the booking.
Group size and room sharing
Your group size shapes almost every part of the package. A couple may prefer a double room close to the Haram. A family of six may save by taking a quad room with an extra bed. Several related families travelling together may want rooms on the same floor and a private vehicle for the whole group.
We book double, triple, quad and quint rooms depending on the hotel, and we can arrange group Umrah bookings for mosque committees, extended families and friends travelling from Sahiwal, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and other cities. Tell us how many people are travelling and who wants to share, and we will match the rooms to your family.
Flights and route plan
Most Pakistani families fly into Jeddah or Madinah. You can choose either order:
- Makkah first: fly to Jeddah and perform Umrah soon after arrival. You must be in Ihram before crossing the Miqat, which happens in the air before landing, so most people enter Ihram at home or at the airport in Pakistan.
- Madinah first: fly to Madinah for a calmer start, then enter Ihram at Dhul Hulayfah on the way to Makkah. Many families fly into Madinah and return from Jeddah.
Nonstop flights to Jeddah and Madinah run from Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi, with more limited options from Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Peshawar. For flight times and airlines on each route, read our guide to flights from Pakistan to Jeddah, Madinah and Dubai.
Transport in Saudi Arabia
Transport between the airport, Makkah and Madinah can be arranged in several ways. A private car or van is the most comfortable for families with elders, luggage and children, because it goes door to door. Shared coaches are cheaper and work well for groups. The Haramain high-speed train connects Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah and is fast and comfortable, although you still need a short taxi ride between the station and your hotel.
We include airport transfers and Makkah to Madinah transport in our Umrah packages, and we choose the option that suits your family's needs and budget.
Types of Umrah packages
We do not sell one fixed package. Instead, we build three broad levels and adjust them to your family:
Economy Umrah package
Hotels further from the Haram with a shuttle service, shared transport and flexible flight options. This suits healthy adults and groups looking for the lowest total cost.
Standard family Umrah package
Hotels within walking distance of the Haram in both cities, private or small-group transport and convenient flights. This is the most popular choice for families with children.
Premium Umrah package
Hotels facing or next to the Haram, private transport throughout and the most convenient flight timings. This is ideal for elderly parents, Ramadan trips and families who want the least walking.
Prices change with the season, the hotel and the number of people in each room, so we quote after we know your dates and family size. You can also see our current offers on the Umrah packages section of our website.
What our Umrah package includes
A complete family Umrah package from Expert Aviation usually includes:
- Umrah visa processing for every family member.
- Return flights from your chosen Pakistani city to Jeddah or Madinah.
- Hotels in Makkah and Madinah, with room types matched to your family.
- Airport transfers and Makkah to Madinah transport.
- Guided Ziyarat in Makkah and Madinah on request.
- Help setting up the Nusuk app and booking permits.
- A contact person in Pakistan who knows your file for the whole trip.
Everything we include is written in your booking confirmation, with the total price including taxes and service charges. What you agree to is what you pay.
Umrah visa and documents
Paperwork is where many families run into trouble. Before you travel, make sure every family member has:
- A passport valid for at least six months from the travel date.
- An approved Umrah visa, which we process for you.
- CNIC or B-Form copies, and a Family Registration Certificate if needed.
- Vaccination certificates required by Saudi health authorities. Requirements such as meningitis and polio vaccination for travellers from Pakistan have applied in recent years, so we confirm the current rules before you fly.
- Printed copies of hotel vouchers, flight tickets and your visa.
Saudi authorities have relaxed several rules in recent years, including rules for women travelling without a mahram. Because these can change, our visa team checks the current requirement for your family before submitting the file.
Tip for families: keep all passports, visas and tickets in one folder carried by one adult, and share photos of every document on a family WhatsApp group in case anything is lost.
Nusuk app and Rawdah permit
Saudi authorities use the Nusuk platform to manage visits to certain places, including the Rawdah in Masjid an-Nabawi. Permits are booked by time slot, with separate times for men and women, and popular slots can fill quickly. We help each family member set up the app, link their visa and book the permits that apply to your trip, so you do not lose time in Madinah.
Ziyarat in Makkah and Madinah
Many families like to visit the historic places of Makkah and Madinah after completing their Umrah. Common Ziyarat stops include:
- Makkah: Jabal al-Nour (the Cave of Hira), Jabal Thawr, Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat.
- Madinah: Masjid Quba, Mount Uhud and the martyrs' graveyard, and Masjid al-Qiblatain.
Ziyarat tours usually take half a day in each city. For elders, we plan them by private vehicle with short stops, so nobody has to climb or walk far.
Family packing list for Umrah
- Ihram sheets for men and boys, and comfortable modest clothing for women and girls.
- Comfortable walking shoes or sandals, and a small shoe bag for the Haram.
- Unscented soap, shampoo and toiletries for use in Ihram.
- Medicines, prescriptions, a small first-aid kit and oral rehydration salts.
- An umbrella or cap for the sun, a refillable water bottle and light snacks for children.
- A power bank, a universal plug adapter and a Saudi SIM or roaming package.
- A small prayer mat, a pocket Quran and a dua book.
Check your baggage allowance before packing, and leave space for Zamzam and gifts on the way back.
How we plan your family Umrah
- Tell us about your family. Share the number of travellers, ages, departure city, dates and budget on WhatsApp or at our Sahiwal office.
- Receive a clear plan. We suggest hotels, flights and transport, with the full price in one figure.
- Submit documents. Our team checks every passport and document before the visa file is submitted.
- Get your confirmations. Visas, e-tickets and hotel vouchers are sent to you, and every ticket has a PNR you can check on the airline's website.
- Travel with support. If a flight changes or you need help in Saudi Arabia, call a person who already knows your file.
Frequently asked questions
How many days should a family Umrah be?
Most families choose 14 to 21 days, usually split between Makkah and Madinah. Families with elderly parents or young children often prefer a longer trip with more rest days rather than a rushed 7 to 10 day plan.
Is it better to stay close to the Haram with elderly parents?
Yes. For elderly parents, a hotel within walking distance of Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi saves energy for worship, allows rest between prayers and reduces dependence on shuttles and taxis.
Can children go for Umrah?
Yes. Children of any age can travel for Umrah with their parents. Each child needs a passport and visa, and we recommend planning shorter walking days, child-friendly rooms and quieter prayer times.
Should we go to Makkah or Madinah first?
Both are fine. Makkah first lets you perform Umrah straight away. Madinah first gives a calmer start, and you enter Ihram at Dhul Hulayfah on the way to Makkah. Many families fly into Madinah and return from Jeddah.
Do I need the Nusuk app for Umrah?
Saudi authorities use the Nusuk platform for permits such as visiting the Rawdah in Masjid an-Nabawi. Our team helps you set up the app and book the permits that apply to your trip.
How early should we book a Ramadan Umrah package?
Book three to four months ahead for Ramadan, especially for the last ten days. Hotels near the Haram and flights to Jeddah and Madinah fill quickly in this period.
